County officials begin nominating process for new CCHHS Board member

Members of the committee charged with nominating candidates to replace former Cook County Health and Hospitals System Board Member Rev. Dr. Calvin Morris met on Tuesday to finalize a schedule for the upcoming nominating process.

The nominating committee is made up of representatives from 14 health care and community organizations. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle’s office selected the organizations that make up the committee.

Cook County Health and Hospitals System nurses plan to picket outside of hospital system facilities on June 5 amid ongoing contract disputes. Representatives of the National Nurses Organizing Committee union, which represents nurses at CCHHS facilities, announced plans for the protest during Friday’s CCHHS Board of Directors meeting.

Cook County Health and Hospitals System released new figures showing the system is exceeding enrollment goals for its CountyCare managed care program.

On Friday, CCHHS Executive Director of Managed Care Steven Glass presented a report to the health system’s board showing 179,393 patients had enrolled in CountyCare as of the beginning of this month, a 17.2 percent increase from the beginning of March. CCHHS had previously set a goal of reaching 156,396 CountyCare enrollees by the beginning of April.

Preckwinkle proposes $3.99 billion 2015 budget with no new taxes

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle introduced a proposed $3.99 billion 2015 county budget that contains no new taxes, fines or fees during a special meeting of the Cook County Board Thursday.

The budget proposal represents a spending increase of approximately 12 percent compared to this year’s $3.56 billion budget. Much of that spending increase is the result of a $409.7 million rise in allocations for the Health Enterprise Fund for spending related to CountyCare.
