Aviation Committee starts and stops leases at city’s airports

The city’s Committee on Aviation on Friday approved the termination of a lease agreement with Delta Airlines for a cargo site at O'Hare Airport.

Delta’s lease of the cargo building was originally set to expire in May 2018, but the airline sought an early exit from the agreement because of the company’s merger with Northwest Airlines, first announced in 2008. Cargo operations for Delta have since relocated to a larger facility at O’Hare, according to Chicago Department of Aviation General Counsel Jonathan Leach. The lease had been in place since June 1973.

Airport ad contracts fly through Council committee

The Chicago City Council Committee on Aviation approved two contracts today intended to hike ad revenue at O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport.

One contract with Texas-based Clear Channel allows the company to install new digital advertising at O’Hare and changes the terms of the company’s Midway advertising contract. A separate measure lets France-based JCDecaux sell ad space on O’Hare transit system cars, which move passengers between airport terminals and parking lots.
