Council committee expresses support for $12 million property tax break for Ford parts supplier

Amid fears of losing jobs to Indiana, a City Council panel on Monday approved a resolution supporting the renewal of a major tax break for a Ford assembly plant supplier.

Members of the City Council Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology Development unanimously expressed their support for renewal of a Cook County Class 6(b) tax incentive for the Chicago Manufacturing Campus, which owns 155 acres of land at 12525 S. Carondolet Ave., 2924 E. 126th Place, 12350 S. Carondolet Ave. and 12359 S. Burley Ave.

Council committee approves property tax break for Independent Mechanical Industries

The City Council Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology Development on Monday approved the extension of a property tax break for Independent Mechanical Industries that could allow the company to save over $1 million in real estate taxes over a 12-year period at their current location in the Knox Industrial Corridor in Portage Park.

Council committee endorses Brenna Berman as chief information officer

A Council committee on Tuesday unanimously approved the nomination of Brenna Berman as chief information officer and commissioner for the city’s Department of Innovation and Technology.

Berman plans to focus on city-wide planning and execution of an IT strategy that is centered on the needs of residents and the departments that serve them. Berman told committee members that her short-term goals include continuing the consolidation of IT services within the city to allow DoIT to maximize its resources and to ensure that the department’s funds are spent wisely.

Panel approves tax break for Ford dealership

A tax break that cleared a City Council committee last week would let Fox Motors move one of its Ford dealerships to the Near North Side while saving an estimated 50 percent on their Cook County property tax payments over the next 12 years.

The City Council Committee on Economic, Capital and Technology Development approved Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s proposal to provide the Michigan based company with Class 7(b) tax status so it can relocate its dealership from 2401 S. Michigan Ave. to 2450 N. Elston Avenue.
