Condoms to be dispensed at some CPS high schools

Chicago Public Schools will place condom dispensers in 24 high schools starting in the fall as a pilot program.

Dr. Stephanie Whyte, chief health officer for Chicago Public Schools, announced the program Wednesday at a joint meeting of the City Council Education and Health committees. During the meeting, CPS and Chicago Department of Public Health officials detailed various city efforts to improve teen health.

At Wednesday’s City Council Committee on Education and Childhood Development meeting, City Colleges of Chicago Chancellor Cheryl Hyman updated aldermen on the progress of the seven-college system’s “College to Careers” program – part of the “Reinvention” initiative pushed by Hyman and Mayor Rahm Emanuel to cater CCC classes to available jobs and credits transferrable to four-year universities.
