Sacrifice less important programs to fund vital services like oral health care, county hospitals system board chairman urges executives

Following reports at Thursday's Cook County Health and Hospitals System board meeting on the current lack of access to public oral health services in the county, board chairman David Carvalho urged the system’s executives to consider foregoing the status quo in an attempt to incorporate important but neglected programs like oral health care into future budgets.

Staffing issues may slow down Medicaid expansion in Cook County

The Cook County Health and Hospitals System  has taken 32,000 applications as of March 20 in its landmark expansion of Medicaid through the federal Affordable Care Act. But county and state staffing levels may not be sufficient to handle all the applications, or at least process them in a timely manner.
