The Illinois Medical District Commission has set a timetable for the potential approval of Special Olympics Chicago’s proposed $30 million facility amid assurances that outside money will be found for the venue.

Under a plan announced at Tuesday’s IMDC Board meeting, IMDC will review SOC’s proposal next month. The board would likely vote on the matter during its May meeting, according to commission spokeswoman Heather Tarczan.

IMDC approves new Gateway Center RFP

The Illinois Medical District Commission on Tuesday approved issuance of a request for proposals from developers interested in building the district’s planned IMD Gateway Center.

IMDC officials envision construction of a mixed-use facility totaling as much as 1.2 million square feet on 9.5 acres of land at 2020 W. Ogden Ave. and 1910 W. Harrison St. on the medical district’s campus on Chicago’s Near West Side, according to a district press release. The center is expected to include retail, dining, hotel, residential, office and medical space.
