Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Gov. Pat Quinn, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and UI Labs announced Thursday that the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute landed its first research project.
The digital manufacturing lab, which is scheduled to open this winter in a 94,000-square-foot space on the northern end of Goose Island, received $10 million in funding from the federal Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, according to a mayoral press release. DARPA is an entity charged with developing new technologies for the United States military.
