Gov. Quinn has a five-year plan to restructure the Medicaid system in Illinois and, by most accounts, it’s an ambitious one. Quinn’s Path to Transformation includes plans for consolidating and updating health care infrastructure, expanding the health care workforce, and keeping disabled and mentally ill people out of institutional care. All of the reforms are designed to reduce the state’s Medicaid costs in the longterm.

Illinois Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) at a Monday City Club of Chicago event spoke of the “urgent” need to reform the Chicago Public Schools pension system.

State Law requires the district to make a $613 million pension contribution by June 30, $417 million more than CPS’s payment last year, Cullerton explained following his address.
