As temperatures throughout Illinois hit sub-zero levels on Monday, Gov. Pat Quinn declared a statewide disaster area.

In conjunction with the disaster declaration, Quinn on Monday also activated the Illinois National Guard to provide assistance to those in need, according to a Governor’s Office press release.
