The cup. Mayor Rahm Emanuel issued a statement on Monday night on the newly-crowned 2012-2013 NHL champions, the Chicago Blackhawks."The city of Chicago is thrilled to congratulate our own Chicago Blackhawks on their hard-fought victory, once again bringing the Stanley Cup back to their sweet home Chicago,” Emanuel said. “Our best wishes go out to the Bruins and the city of Boston for a well-played series.” As of Tuesday morning, the Hawks – along with the cup – were reportedly on a celebratory streak through Chicago bars and restaurants. An official parade is slated for Friday.

A new chapter. O’Gara and Wilson bookstore at 1448 E. 57th St. in Hyde Park, the oldest bookstore in Chicago according to DNAinfo, will close this August. Store owner Doug Wilson, who said he can no longer afford to pay the city’s taxes and rents, will relocate the store to his hometown – Chesterton, Ind.

First impressions. Art Institute of Chicago curator Gloria Groom appeared on WBEZ’s “Morning Shift” program Monday to talk about the museum’s new fashion and impressionism exhibit, which will open to the public on Wednesday. The exhibit, which runs through Sept. 22, depicts 19th century European fashion trends alongside the work of impressionists like Monet, Degas and Renoir. But why blend the two mediums in one display? “The more I read about the context of fashion in the 19th century, the more I realized that we had to put the two together,” Groom explained. “We needed the physical reality in order to understand these wonderful paintings that we’ve seen a million times.”

Je ne sais quoi-ssant. West Town Bakery began selling a doughnut/croissant hybrid pastry on Saturday. An imitation of a New York bakery’s trademarked “cronut,” West Town Bakery’s confectionery creation has affectionately been dubbed the “doughssant.” You can try the creation at either of the bakery’s locations – 1924 W. Chicago Ave. and 15 E. Ohio St.
