Working hard. Crain’s Chicago Business released its Crain’s Best Places to Work 2013 list, highlighting 20 of the Chicago area’s most attractive employers. From food service to IT and construction to advertising, these companies have some of the happiest employees in the Windy City. Centro LLC topped this year’s list.

Fame game. Former advisor to President Barack Obama and Chicagoan David Axelrod was inducted into the American Association of Political Consultants Hall of Fame this week along with David Plouffe, another Obama advisor. “Many of our members have marveled at how David Axelrod and David Plouffe have mastered the art of the modern political campaign,” said AAPD President Dale Emmons. You can read about all of the association’s 2013 inductees here.

Movie legend. The nation is mourning Thursday's passing of revered Chicago film critic Roger Ebert through an outpouring of media tributes and Twitter remembrances. President Barack Obama released a statement saying, "For a generation of Americans - especially Chicagoans - Roger was the movies." The Chicago Sun-Times called Ebert the "Rushmore of movie critics" and former Mayor Richard Daley said, "Roger was a friend to many, not just to moviegoers."

Running the numbers. Crain's Chicago Business compiled some interesting data on this Sunday’s Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, which the paper reports is now the world’s largest road race. The 8K run sold out for the ninth straight year with 40,000 participants, which is equal to that of the Chicago Marathon. Participants will head through River North, the Loop, West Loop and South Loop before ending in Grant Park.

Game on. Two of Chicago's arcade bars, Headquarters Beercade and Emporium Beercade, are planning big expansions. Chicagoist reported that Headquarters is billing their planned 7,000 square foot pinball expansion as the largest collection of pinball machines in the Midwest.
