Members of the U.S. House on Wednesday passed by voice vote legislation sponsored by Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.) that calls for a study on the health effects of low doses of radiation on humans. The vote came during the first week of the first session of the 114th Congress.
Hultgren argued on the House floor on Wednesday that while high levels of radiation are known to be harmful to humans, the effects of exposure to small doses of radiation from “the cosmic background” and some manufacturing procedures is unknown.
