Gates stepping down as RTA chair

John Gates Jr. only has a handful of meetings left as chairman of the Regional Transportation Authority Board. Gates, who has served in the elected post for four years, will not seek reelection to the seat when his term expires this summer.

“For the last eight years, I have spent the majority of my time in government service,” said Gates, who was previously chairman of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, at Wednesday’s board meeting. “I don’t feel like I can commit the kind of time I am committing to this over the next five years.”
