Reverend Dennis Holtschneider, president of DePaul University, spoke at a City Club of Chicago luncheon Monday on the trend of rising tuition costs at DePaul and colleges throughout the country.

The main reason for rising tuition rates, Holtschneider said, is an increasing demand for university faculty to produce meaningful research in their fields of study. He explained that devoting the necessary time to research has forced universities to decrease faculty members’ class loads, which in turn has obligated schools to hire more faculty.
