Illinois State Police will expand its support of the Chicago Police Department’s efforts to track down fugitives in the hopes of quelling street violence, officials said Wednesday.

Forty new state police officers will join the Chicago Police Fugitive Unit to help find, investigate and apprehend wanted fugitives in the city, according to the Mayor’s Office. The Fugitive Unit is “manpower intensive” and specializes on arrest warrant follow-ups, surveillance and computer investigations.
