City officials next month will begin screening passengers at some Chicago Transit Authority rail stations for explosives.

Officials plan to use funding from a federal counter-terrorism initiative to fund the program, according to CBS Chicago.  At first, the program will only target one downtown “L” station at a time. Up to five Chicago Police Department officers will conduct the screenings at the selected stations, DNAinfo Chicago reported.

RTA Board makes Leanne Redden permanent executive director

The Regional Transportation Authority Board approved the appointment of Leanne Redden to a three-year term as the agency’s executive director on Wednesday.

Redden has served as the RTA’s acting executive director since March. The board selected her for that post in December after former Executive Director Joe Costello announced his resignation.
