Rockin’ Rahm. DNAinfo Chicago columnist Mark Konkol caught up with Mayor Rahm Emanuel recently, but not to talk about fighting crime or balancing budgets. Instead, Konkol discussed music with the mayor. Whether it’s The Rolling Stones, Wilco or Delta Spirit, Emanuel said he almost never skips a beat. He listens to music in the office almost continuously while he is at work. Want to rock out like Rahm? Check out Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s City Hall Mix Vol. 1 on Spotify.

A stand up guy. Ald. Richard Mell (33rd) announced his retirement last week, which will be effective as of the City Council meeting on Wednesday, July 24. With nearly four decades in office, the alderman has worked tirelessly for generations of constituents. In a recent statement, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Mell was “always at his desk – sometimes on it.” If you don’t get the reference, just check out this photograph from Chicago Magazine that depicts Mell during a 1987 City Council meeting.

Donut delivery. Icing and dough purveyor Glazed & Infused has made it a little more difficult for Chicagoans to stay dedicated to their summer diets. The donut chain is now offering delivery service from its numerous city locations through GrubHub.

New in town. The Shedd Aquarium added another resident last month – a newborn Rockhopper penguin. Its gender is still unknown and a name for the new little guy (or girl) has not been reported. You can see the penguin for yourself at the Shedd’s Polar Play Zone exhibit.
