Surf’s up. North Avenue Beach was featured on the homepage of Microsoft’s Bing search engine on Monday. “North Avenue is an awesome beach, and one that many people would be surprised to find in a big city like Chicago,” Kristin Dean, Bing’s homepage managing editor told the Chicago Tribune. O’Hare airport, the Field Museum’s “Sue” fossil, Belmont Harbor, the Chicago skyline and The Bean at Millennium Park have been featured on Bing’s homepage in the past.

College. University of Illinois ranked No. 3 on the Princeton Review’s annual list of the nation’s top party schools, according to Fox Chicago. Illinois’s Wheaton College placed second on the Review’slist of the top 20 sober schools in the country.

Mixing things up. David Flom and Matthew Moore, managing partners of Chicago Cut Steakhouse and the Local Chicago, recently snagged three popular mixologists for their downtown eateries. Curt Rose and Russell Shulman were picked up by the Local after being fired for making a “’jokingly disparaging remark” about a desert at their former restaurant, RL, the duo told Crain’s. Arturo Rodriguez, who spent 27 years at Shaw’s Crab House, has moved to Chicago Cut. Flom said all three drink-makers will be strong assets for their new restaurants due to their rapport with local customers.

Sweet day. Tuesday is National Root Beer Float Day, and Chicagoist has compiled a list Chicago establishments that serve floats worthy of the holiday.
