Let there be festivals

With summer nearly upon us, the Chicago Sun-Times on Thursday published a list of festivals and other events around Chicagoland to enjoy in the coming months. Among the events are: the Grant Park Music Festival, Millennium Park from June 11-Aug. 16; Ribfest Chicago, Irving Park Road and Damen and Lincoln Avenues from June 6-June 8; and the Chicago Blues Festival, Grant Park from June 13-June 15. Beach bums

The Chicago Park District’s beaches opened on Friday, and the Park District is using technology this summer to ensure the safety of all those enjoying some fun in the sun. According to CPDBeaches.com, lifeguards will be able to update water quality and weather restrictions in real time.

On-air mayor

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is slated to appear on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show” on NBC on June 3, the Chicago Tribune reported. The mayor’s Tonight Show appearance comes after Emanuel and Fallon participated together in Special Olympics Chicago’s Polar Plunge fundraiser in March.

Excuse me?

Leaf Brands LLC’s Farts Candy recently defeated more than 250 competitors to receive the Most Innovative Candy Award at the National Sweets and Snacks Show in Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune. Leaf Brands is the maker of candy like Whoppers and Jolly Ranchers.
