The cowboy tuxedo

Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday while announcing a new Mariano’s grocery store slated for development in Bronzeville defended his wardrobe choice while attending Sunday’s Chicago Blackhawks playoff game.

The mayor, who took his 15-year-old daughter to the game, opted for a denim button-up over a Hawks t-shirt in place of his usual suit.

"If your daughter at 15 still wants to be seen with you, don't worry about how I'm dressing," the mayor said, according to DNAinfo Chicago. "If she doesn't think that wearing a blue-jean denim shirt's a problem for her, relax, we've got other things to worry about.”

It’s in the bag

Mark Peters – a Chicago-based freelance writer and “humorist,” according to Crain’s Chicago Business – raised a reasonable concern in an opinion piece about Chicago’s new plastic shopping bag ban.

Without an abundance of plastic bags, he said, dog owners are far less likely to pick up their pets’ poop.

“Reverse the bag ban, aldermen!” Peters said. “We need a clean city, and I need bags. None of us needs a planet.”

Da Coach

Former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka – the new spokesman of Al’s Beef and Nancy’s Pizza – joined Mokena-based Chicago Franchise Systems Inc. officials Tuesday in opening their new Al’s location at 234 S. Wabash Ave. in the Loop, Crain’s Chicago Business reported.

“Al's Beef and Nancy's Pizza are Chicago legends in a city so close to my heart after being here for many years,” Ditka said in a statement. “I couldn't be more excited to support their growth and expansion.”

Que sabrosa!

The Daily Meal recently released a list of the 50 best Mexican restaurants in the country, and six Chicago eateries were included.

Chicago’s Mexican restaurants that made the list, according to DNAinfo Chicago, were: Topolobampo (No. 1); Big Star (No. 9); Maxwell Street Market (No. 22); Birrieria Zaragoza (No. 25); and Salpicon (No. 42).
