Beach glory

From the Chicago Tribune: Chicago’s Lake Michigan beach was recently named in GQ magazine’s July issue as one of the best beaches in America.

"There's volleyball, the famous Ferris wheel at Navy Pier and — oh yeah — one of the greatest cities in the world literally right across the street,” GQ’s article on the country’s best beaches stated. “The sand is so integrated into Chicago life that you can arrive via subway. Try that in Florida and see how far you get."

Divvy data

From DNAinfo Chicago: Logan Square resident Gabriel Gaster, a lifelong cyclist and avid numbers junkie, recently created an infographic that depicts the most-heavily traveled routes for Divvy bike riders.

Gaster’s map allows users to hover over the city’s Divvy stations and then shows to where riders who took bikes from those stations most frequently traveled. Check it out at Divvy.Datasco.pe.

A new day, a new Doug

Chicago magazine recently interviewed Doug Sohn, who is closing his iconic Hot Doug’s hot dog stand in Avondale on Oct. 3 after 14 years in business.

When asked where he will go for hot dogs after his restaurant closes, Sohn responded, “I haven’t been out for a hot dog in Chicago in 14 years. Probably the first place I go out for lunch will not be a hot dog stand, I will say that.”

What a house

A seven-bedroom Lincoln Park estate recently became the most expensive single-family home on the market in Chicago.

The asking price for the home, located at 1955 N. Burling St., is $18.75 million, according to DNAinfo Chicago. The estate, which includes 20,000 square feet of interior space between the main home and a guest house, spans five city lots.

"There has never been a residence of this significance on the market," reads the home’s listing from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff’s Janet Owen. "This is not just an estate, it is a lifestyle and far exceeds all expectations."
