“D’oh!”

From TalkingPointsMemo.com: In a fundraising email his campaign sent out on Thursday, Gov. Pat Quinn said that Bruce Rauner and the other Republican gubernatorial candidates in Illinois “have all the compassion of C. Montgomery Burns,” the wealthy, villainous boss of Homer Simpson in the long-running cartoon “The Simpsons.” Quinn’s comparison came after Rauner, a billionaire venture capitalist, called for a decrease in Illinois’ minimum wage from $8.25 per hour to $7.25 per hour. The governor has proposed increasing the state’s minimum wage to $10 an hour.

Say it ain’t so

It’s true – Kraft Foods Group is suffering a shortage of its Velveeta cheese products. NBC News on Thursday said Kraft in two memos it sent to wholesale grocers last fall said it had “run into production challenges” after transitioning its “Velveeta production lines from one Plant to another Plan summer.”

A Jewel-Osco spokeswoman on Wednesday said 8-ounce Velveeta packages have been out of stock at Jewel stores since September and that the grocer’s supply of 16 ounces packages is running low, the Chicago Tribune reported. Thirty-two ounce packages are available, but Kraft is anticipating a seasonal increase in demand for Velveeta that coincides with the NFL post season.

Doing away with “dibs”

Jamie Lynn Ferguson – an employee of the Breakthrough Urban Ministries homeless shelter and youth services organization – took off work Thursday to shovel out as many parking spaces as she could along the 2600 block of West Evergreen Avenue, where she live. According to the CBS Chicago report, Ferguson was inspired to do the good deed after seeing neighbors arguing over parking spots the day before. She documented the entire venture on her @AuntieSweetLeaf Twitter feed.
