Illinois GOP chairman wants party to focus on economic issues in 2014 elections

While speaking at a City Club of Chicago luncheon on Thursday, Illinois GOP Chairman Jack Dorgan expressed optimism about the Republican party’s chances in next year’s elections.

Insisting that having a single party control the state’s government was “wrong,” he argued Republicans in 2014 need to focus on the issues of economic development and attracting more businesses to Illinois.

U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) highlighted her efforts in Congress to reduce gun violence while speaking at a City Club of Chicago event Thursday.

Kelly said events like the Sandy Hook tragedy and the ongoing epidemic of gun violence in Chicago motivated her to campaign on gun control issues while running for office earlier this year. With gun violence at American schools, airports, shopping malls and everywhere in between regularly making headlines, Kelly said that much work lies ahead.
