Emanuel dismisses Fioretti’s LaSalle Street Tax proposal

On Friday Mayor Rahm Emanuel took aim at challenger Bob Forietti’s support of a financial transactions tax, saying the key to economic growth in Chicago is lowering taxes, not adding new ones.

Fioretti has expressed support for what is commonly known in Chicago as the LaSalle Street tax throughout his mayoral campaign. The tax would impose a fee on transactions at Chicago’s financial and commodity exchanges.

When asked by a reporter for his thoughts on the LaSalle Street tax on Friday, Emanuel argued it would drive business out of Chicago.
