2016 marks significant anniversary of MLK’s work in Chicago

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was first celebrated as an official federal holiday 30 years ago, and 2016 also marks a significant anniversary for King’s work with the Chicago Freedom Movement.

At the invitation of the coalition of 44 civil rights groups, King came to Chicago in late 1965 and began working on the Chicago Freedom Movement’s efforts to improve the living conditions of African Americans in the city.

Democratic Party endorses Kim Foxx for state’s attorney

The Democratic Party of Cook County on Thursday endorsed Kim Foxx in the race for Cook County state’s attorney over incumbent State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez and challenger Donna More.

Thursday’s endorsement reverses the party’s August decision not to back a candidate in the March 15 state’s attorney primary.

4G now available throughout Chicago’s subway system

Subway commuters on Chicago’s Blue and Red lines now have access to a faster mobile network while riding in tunnels or waiting at subway station.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Transit Authority on Tuesday announced the CTA has finished its installation of 4G communications across the city’s 22-mile subway system. The CTA is now the largest public transit system in North America with full 4G coverage.
