Howard Tullman recommends Wickr, the “Snapchat for grownups” that is popular among Washington pols

During his City Club of Chicago address on Monday, 1871 CEO Howard Tullman sang the praises of Wickr, a messaging service that is popular among politicians in Washington, D.C. He called the application “a hit” and “a very powerful tool.”

Wickr is a phone app that allows people to send and receive private messages, documents, pictures, video and audio files that disappear after being read. In his slide presentation, Tullman referred to the application as “Snapchat for adults.”

The free Wickr app has become popular among Washington politicians and others in business because of its strong security features. Wickr messages are sent using military-grade encryption over a secure server. According to Wickr’s website, users have the ability to set an expiration date and time for messages and, after that time, messages will be deleted automatically. The app allows meta-data to be permanently erased, including the time the messages were sent and user geo-location information.

“All the political leaders in Washington use it now because everyone doesn’t want to have the Hillary email experience,” Tullman told the crowd. “It’s worth looking at because you can use really industrial strength security, and you can have very efficient and effective communications with people that you care about.”
