Ald. Pawar officially announces 2015 candidacy

Alderman Ameya Pawar (47th), who was first elected to the City Council in 2011, officially announced that he will run for reelection next year.

Pawar in an email to constituents on Tuesday said he hopes to continue efforts to improve 47th Ward K-12 schools, foster “responsible development” and push for citywide reforms during his second term. He and his Friends of Ameya Pawar campaign team began collecting nominating signatures last week, according to the email.

“Our election victory in 2011 was just the beginning of our story,” Pawar wrote.

If Pawar is reelected, his 2015 term will likely be his last as alderman. He told the Daily Whale in March that he planned to serve no more than eight years on the city council.

“I’m running one more time, for a second term,” he said. “If this is it, I’m cool with that.”
